Three quantities

| Quantity | Formula/meaning |
|---|---|
| Exposure | Contract size × lots |
| Required margin | Exposure ÷ applicable leverage (simplified) |
| Planned loss | Price-to-stop cash move + all costs |
| Free margin | Equity − used margin |
Workflow
- Choose exact symbol/account.
- Set invalidation and cash-loss budget.
- Derive volume.
- Calculate normal margin.
- Stress HMR/news/weekend margin.
- Fund only affordable capital with buffer.
Dynamic limits
Available leverage depends on entity, equity, instrument and events. Certain instruments use fixed margin. Current maximum shown in PA/specification controls; a global marketing ceiling is not a Namibia promise.
Funding trap
A low margin requirement can make a small deposit appear sufficient while the position’s cash loss remains large. Never choose deposit size merely to satisfy margin; include drawdown and payment/conversion costs.
Risk example
Two positions with the same volume have the same approximate price exposure whether the account uses 1:100 or 1:500. The latter reserves less margin but does not reduce the loss from the same adverse move.

Frequently asked questions
Does higher leverage increase profit automatically?
No. It changes collateral and can enable larger exposure.
Is margin maximum loss?
No. Loss follows exposure, price movement and costs.
Can leverage change near news?
Yes. HMR can apply. Verify the current Namibia Personal Area method, ownership, limits, currency, status and supporting evidence first.
How should deposit size be chosen?
From affordable drawdown and margin/cost buffer, not leverage alone.
